Fight Back Against Cyber-Crooks In The Cloud – And Win

Introduction

We’re in unprecedented times. COVID-19 has changed the rules of how we work—at least for the present. Most employees are working from home, some using company-issued equipment while others are using unsecured and often outdated personal devices.

For instance, Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft, yet many home machines are still using it. Another concern is unsecured home networks. Many users haven’t changed the default passwords to their network devices—a hacker’s dream!

The most used cloud application is Office 365, and hackers are zeroing in on it in unprecedented numbers. Whether you’re working at home or locked behind your company’s network, Office 365 is under sustained attack by the criminal underworld because of the treasure-trove of data stored in it. COVID-19 just highlighted what has been going on for years.

Whether working from the office or home, you need to backup Office 365

Did you ever read Microsoft’s Service Agreement? If you didn’t, you’re not alone—very few people have. While perusing it, you’ll come to section 6b, stating:

”We strive to keep the Services up and running; however, all online services suffer occasional disruptions and outages, and Microsoft is not liable for any disruption or loss you may suffer as a result. In the event of an outage, you may not be able to retrieve Your Content or Data that you’ve stored. We recommend that you regularly backup Your Content and Data that you store on the Services or store using Third-Party Apps and Services.”

Microsoft is stating in their Services Agreement that they are not responsible for data loss. Although they may store a copy of your data, they will not retain it beyond a minimum retention period of a few weeks. For this reason, Microsoft encourages you to use a third-party backup service.

Office 365’s security is not strong enough for today’s sophisticated hackers

Office 365 does have security, and it does a decent job; however, today’s criminals are very sophisticated and regularly infiltrate user accounts.

Hackers regularly use Polymorphic Malware that changes its identifiable features and, in some cases, renders traditional malware identification techniques powerless. This is in addition to the tried-and-true methods of Phishing, Spear Phishing, and zero-day exploits that have a high rate of success against today’s typical security systems.

You need an additional layer of protection that can discover and block these types of threats. Office 365’s native security just can’t do it.

To secure Office 365, you need an Artificial Intelligent (AI)-based security solution that will protect Office 365 against unknown threats.

XSolutions Cloud Data Protection – two solutions under one roof

We’ve combined two powerful systems into one comprehensive solution, giving you:

  • Point-in-time backups, protecting Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Teams so you can quickly restore Office 365 items and files from multiple points in time and retaining backups for years if needed.
  • AI-Powered security combining machine learning and real-time behavioral analysis to stop threats before, during, and even after attacks so you can be as safe as possible.

No system can claim to be 100% effective against data loss, malware, hacking, etc. Anyone who claims that is lying. We’re not making such a bogus claim either. What we are saying is that by using our Cloud Data Protection solution, your company will have the maximum level of protection available for your Office 365 applications.

One last, but essential point

Backing up and securing Office 365 is not just for home users. Cloud backup and security are vital components in Business Continuity Backup Disaster Recovery (BCDR) plans and overall network security. All businesses need both components, whether employees work from the office or at home.

COVID-19 has heightened office 365 backup and security issues. Still, hackers and cybercriminals will continue to attack and penetrate cloud applications no matter where employees are based.

Office 365 is a significant depository of data, and hackers know this. It is up to you, not Microsoft, to protect Office 365 from data loss and theft. If you’re interested in hardening Office 365 for your business, call us at (845) 362-9675 or email us at [email protected].
