Security Alert: NYS DMV Email Scam Going Around
News reports on local stations here in Rockland County, NY plus notifications on various security blogs I follow announced that an email scam pretending to be from the New York Department of Motor Vehicles is going around notifying people that they have outstanding tickets that must be paid within 48 hours or their license will be revoked. If you receive such an email, do not click on any links and immediately delete it. It is a scam.
The NY DMV’s June 1, 2017 Press Release states that “The Department of Motor Vehicles does not send emails urging motorists to pay traffic tickets within 48 hours or lose your license.”
If you click on a link, malware will be downloaded onto your PC that will undoubtedly lead to identity theft, etc. As always, we urge that you NEVER click on links or open attachments in emails from untrusted or unexpected sources. If you have a question always go to the official site or call them directly.
